NEW VOGUE

New Vogue Dancing is an uniquely Australian style of sequence Ballroom dancing. What that means is that each particular New Vogue dance has it’s own set of steps, which, once learnt, you can dance anywhere, with any partner, with ease. As opposed to Ballroom and Latin American, where the skill of the leader is paramount to the success on the Ballroom floor, New Vogue is easier for beginners to master initially, as both man and lady learn the sequence and can dance it together.

These dances are often dance in an organised social dances run at Ballare, around Christchurch and NZ.

MODERN SEQUENCE

Based on the ballroom style and similar to new vogue, extremely easy to learn and follow. Modern Sequence Dancing is a form of dance where the "steps" and technique have been scripted by a dance choreographer and published so that ballroom dancers can follow them.

Like new vogue, these dances are often dance in an organised social dances run at Ballare, around Christchurch and NZ.

WHAT KIND OF SHOES SHOULD I WEAR WHILE LEARNING TO DANCE?

Wear shoes that fit securely on your feet. Sandals and heavy boots are not recommended! Thin leather soles work well, but tennis shoes are fine for initial lessons. Most dancers eventually buy ballroom dance shoes to improve their comfort and technique.
Note: To help protect our dance floor, we ask that students lacking dance shoes bring along clean shoes that haven't been worn on the street. Thank you!

I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TWO LEFT FEET AND NO RHYTHM. CAN I REALLY LEARN HOW TO DANCE?

We have a right foot in stock in just your size! Seriously, with just a little effort and practice, all students can learn the patterns and lead/follow techniques necessary to dance with any partner they meet on the dance floor.

WHAT ARE THE BEST DANCES TO LEARN?

In the beginning we like to get you started on what we call a rhythm foxtrot. It is very easy and can be danced with most music.
From there we move onto such dances as the Waltz, Cha Cha, Quickstep, and Jive (modern rock n roll).

DO I NEED A PARTNER?

No, but If you have someone you would like to partner and dance with, you can learn together. Our dance instructors and other dancers will partner you.  Its a great way to meet new people and share in the experience.
